Electrical energy saving devices
Location: Keyworth, Nottinghamshire

Scope of Works:
Electrical installation of the Solar iBoost+ to enable our client to reduce their electrical consumption when using their immersion heater combined with their existing PV system (solar panels) .
How Does the Solar iBoost+ Work?
The Solar iBoost+ is a device that enables our client to use more of the free energy produced by their solar PV system, reducing their energy bills even further by heating water for free.
Most domestic solar PV systems will generate more energy during the day than is used. This surplus energy is usually sent to the National Grid automatically so they were not even aware that it was going on. The Solar iBoost+ interrupts this process, enabling them to use more of their free solar energy while they have it and reducing the amount they need to buy.
The Solar iBoost+ is made up of 2 main parts: the Solar iBoost+ Controller which in this case was installed in an airing cupboard and a 'Sender' which was clamped to their electricity meter.
- The Sender monitors the electricity being generated by their solar PV system and compares it against the amount of electricity they are using. It sends this information to the Solar iBoost+ wirelessly.
- When the Solar iBoost+ detects that they are generating 100W more energy than their using, it automatically sends the excess to power their immersion heater. If the excess energy is needed elsewhere i.e. they turn on another appliance it will automatically adjust.
- Water will only be heated up the immersion heater's maximum thermostat setting.
The Solar iBoost+ Buddy
The Solar iBoost+ Buddy is a monitoring display and can be fitted at the same time or later. In this case we installed it at the same time as other works and was an optional part of the system. It is an 'eco-gauge' which connects to the Solar iBoost wirelessly showing them when their Solar iBoost+ has detected surplus energy; is available to use, when it is active and how much they are saving. They can also view historical savings with the touch of a button.
